Tales From The Crypt-ic

The Armitage's annual Christmas message (very sweet): http://www.richardarmitageonline.com/

If you want to bury all originality and personality in communication, get yourself a publicist and a manager, and watch them strip away all forthrightness or attempts at authentic connection and weave for you some common cloth.

Recipe for the crypt-ic:

Shave the edges off to a place of the politic.  Shroud tightly all thought and feeling.  Bury it in the safe and sanitised. Pennies for your eyes and mouth.

The importance of not being earnest?  Why?  Earnestness is a pure and golden quality. Straightshooting.

The terror of being perceived as 'dull' is also rightly justified. But not for earnestness.  And not just there yet.

Nevermind Mr Armitage, that was not really about you.  At. All.

The subversive, chafing, nimbly suffuses the threads with the "ic" factor.  Thanks. Somewhere in there, you're still alive and kicking fustian ass. Just keep saying "no" to the straitjacket. Feel the fear.  Can I hear that rebel yell?  Hell, yeah!

  1. Brilliant. The pun on cryptic, the reference to "Importance of Being Earnest," the inclusion of the "ic" suffix. Channeling Wilde much? (grin)

  5. @Avalon

    Happy holidays to you too! Thank you!

    That message deserved this partly dopey riff. How else to react? The only part of the message I loved and responded to (apart from the charity business) with any sort of warmth was "yikes". A lot of human story in that word.

    @Frenz,

    I'm not the only one who beats around the bush! And you know that some things are better left unsaid. :)

  6. I have a hard time sometimes evaluating irony. Cough.

    I was talking to my best friend here about this and she absolutely agrees with what I think is potentially your nonironic meaning.
